Whether your a local or just visiting Atlanta you should totally do this tour. This was not only my first time in Atlanta, it was my first time visiting the South. When I travel anywhere, eating the local food is a must for me, so I knew I had to check out this tour. I also chose this specific tour (over other food tours) because they offered vegetarian options. I'm not a vegetarian, however I've been trying to eat less meat recently. I won't lie, I was a little worried how this would go, concerned that I might not get the full experience of trying southern food. Boy was I wrong! Akila was our guide and she had each place we visited prepare a meatless plate just for me.. and they were all AMAZING. And not once did I feel like I wasn't getting the full experience. What I loved most about this tour was not only the fact that Akila was super friendly and encouraged my love of The Walking Dead during the tour (after I had told her I was also in town for a Walking Dead Convention :b), but I absolutely loved that she took us to a variety of places, It never felt like you were repeating things. We hit places like the famous Paschal's Restaurant for some amazing soul food, a BBQ joint called the Smoke Ring that had the best mac n' cheese I've ever tasted, a seafood restaurant where I tried grits for the first time and it was soooo good, a really cute tea place called Just Add Honey where I was even able to purchase and bring home my own tea, a smoothie place that had some pretty amazing drinks and snacks, and the Curb Market where I tried hoecakes and banana pudding along with pecan pralines.. again, amazing. I also got to try moonshine (apple pie flavored of course) for the first time which was pretty delish. You never felt full either. Akila was able to balance the amount of food and walking just perfectly, with light tastings mixed in with slightly heavier tastings. She would also talk to us about the significance of the food we were eating, explain to us how or where it originated. During our walks she would also give us a bit of history on the city, but incorporating food into it as well. I had such an amazing time, Akila was super friendly and easy to talk to and hang out with during the tour. I can’t wait to visit Atlanta again and actually go to some of these places to eat a full meal! Thank you again Akila for such an awesome experience!

I went on the walking food tour with a group of girls for a bachelorette celebration. Everyone had an amazing time! Akila, the guide, did a great job of explaining the history of Atlanta and its food. The walking was very manageable, and the food stops were paced nicely so that we were all stuffed by the end. Another guest and I both had a shellfish allergy, so we received a substitution of sausage and grits instead of the shrimp and grits, and it was delicious! Also Akila was nice enough to walk one of our group members back to a previous stop when she realized her FitBit had fallen off. My only tip for others interested is that the tour did run longer than we expected. Though we were enjoying the food and history so much, it didn't really matter :) I highly recommend this walking food tour for anyone who has never visited Atlanta or for anyone looking to learn a little more about the history of Atlanta while sampling delicious food!

This is the first time I've ever written a review of anything, but I have to give a big shout out to Akila and her Atlanta Food Walk Tour. I recently took a week off from work and decided to do a staycation. I've lived in Atlanta 20 years now and decided to see and do a bunch of touristy things. We went to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca Cola, Atlantic Botanical Gardens, zip lining, and an Escape Adventure. All of these were great and worth seeing, but hands down my son and I agreed the high point of the week was this Atlanta Food Walk! Being your typical suburbanite we don't get down to the city much. We learned so much about Atlanta; its history, the civil rights movement, southern food, movies made here and zombies. The food was delicious and varied. But what truly made the tour memorable was Akila's knowledge and passion for the city and food. We had a large group of 15 people from all over the country, but somehow Akila managed to know everyone's name. If you're visiting from out of town put this on your "must do" list. If you live here take the tour you will learn to appreciate Atlanta even more.
