Best tour ever! Corey was the best tour guide!! He was very informative, has a great sense of humor, made sure that our small group of 14 was well taken care of. We even made a stop on the way up the mountain to look at the Magnificent night sky- the Milky Way was brilliant. We have a great time, learned so much about the culture and the community. We definitely recommend the tour and Corey!

It was truly an amazing breathtaking experience to view the sunrise at Haleakala despite waking up for the bus pickup at 2.15am at our hotel. The driver/tour guide Corey was very knowledgeable and funny making the journey up and down the crater memorable. For lunch, Corey recommended the “breakfast sandwich “, and yes, he was 100% correct - so yummy! We were back at our hotel by 10.30am - a very safe driver!

Worst experience ever!!! I should cancel the tour since I had a feeling when I told them that I had to drive from the west to meet them because it was not the pick up day from the west, and they emailed me back to meet them at the same time at 0230 am. Even though the check in time was 30 mins after that. I assumed as long as I can go the meeting place be the end time it would be ok. I was aware that the bus won’t pick me up at the hotel. So I planned to drive to the meeting place. The time in the website mentioned that you could check in until 4 am. When the bus driver called me I asked where I could meet them at the meeting place. She gave me an address. I started driving right away. I got a phone call when I was on the way to see how long I would be there. I told the guy on the phone that I would be there in 20 minutes (That was the ETA from GPS) which would be at the office at 0352 am. The guy only kept saying I could not make it by the ETA from GPS and told me to reschedule. The Sun would rise sooner in summer, he said. But I already had plans for the next day and would leave the day after. Finally, I got there at 0355 am after I stopped twice thinking to continue going even the bus would not be there anymore or go back to the hotel to sleep. I decided to go to see when I would be at the office. I got there at 0355 am which I should be in time that it was mentioned on the website until 0400 am. Of course! I’m not surprised the bus left already. I checked the sunrise would be at 0541 am that day. After the conversation of my 10 years old daughter, she said she really wanted to see it. So I did some research and found Shaka guide. I downloaded it. Unfortunately, I needed to buy a pass to the mountain 2 days in advance. I drove to the mountain anyway. I wanted to do my best for her. We tried to find a good spot to wait for the moment of the sunrise. I can see the light reflex to the cloud from the back of the mountain. I could imagine how beautiful it would be, but not for my daughter. She didn’t have that imagination like I did. I planned to go back to Maui to see the sunrise again, but not with the tour that costed over $500 for 3 of us. With Shaka guide it costed only $29.99 + $1 for a pass to the mountain. Furthermore I don’t need to wake up super early when I don’t need to since I know I can drive to the mountain by myself with over $500 cheaper.

Aloha, I'm sorry about your experience. I think that you have misinterpreted the check in times. Our check-in time for the summer seasons is 3:00am. our departure time from our shop in haiku is 3:30am. This gives us just enough time to get to the Summit of Haleakala for the Sunrise event, which is not just the sunrise itself, but the 45min-1hr or so of changing colors views prior to the actual specific sunrise. During the Summer months MAY-SEP, it's imperative that we leave by 3:30am, otherwise everyone on the tour misses the event. Regarding what you may have read about a 4am check in. We have seasonal check in times, meaning during the winter check-in is later, 4am. Semantically throughout the year you can say check in takes place between 3am and 4am, but www.haleakalaecotours.com does specify the following check in times: 4:00AM JAN FEB, 3:30AM MAR APR, 3:00AM MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP, 3:30AM OCT NOV, 4:00AM DEC. I hope this clarifies the check in details. Mahalo.
