We had never been to Harlem and figured this was the place to start. We we right! Because it was winter (and cold!) we were the only two on the tour. Our guide, Andy, has lived in Harlem since 1959 and has seen a lot of the history himself: the politics, the architecture, music, society, you name it. He encouraged us to ask questions and I’m not sure how much of the tour was scripted because the conversation was so interesting. You’ll see all the famous places but more than that, you’ll get a sense of the place. And at the end there is fantastic food waiting for you at the Red Rooster or Sylvia’s. Highly recommended, especially if you want something other than typical NY tourism.
