I had an evening to kill in Portland so I decided to do the Beerquest walk. It ended up being a haunted walk due to the proximity to Halloween. We stopped in a couple of bars/pubs for tastes of their beer. The beer was average to good. The walking tour itself was pretty lame. I was hoping for a little more on the pubs to hit and not so much on the somewhat fictitious past of Portland. Try it once, it's inexpensive.

My friend and I went on the haunted tour, and it was awesome! Not only do you get to listen to local legends of spooky stories, but you get a really cool history lesson in the process! Also, you get to drink beer.. which is what Portland is all about! You hit up a couple of bars that have been around forever. In Kells Irish Pub, you are brought down into the cigar room (formally a portion of a Shanghai Tunnel). You get an eerie feeling as you descend the steps, actually. Tyler was very friendly and informative, and just made the whole overall experience a lot of fun!

I joined the twenty person Haunted Pub Tour with three other Portland friends and we all had a blast. It was a nice combination of visiting historical buildings, learning some Portland history, hearing spooky ghost tales and enjoying some tasty beer! I recommend this tour for out of town tourists and locals alike.
