Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Bill was my guide on a quiet Monday. It was basically my only full day in town, so I wanted to get a snapshot before exploring on my own. I was simply in awe with the breadth of his knowledge and more importantly his passion for the history and culture of the beautiful city of Charleston. He was a true storyteller, and didn’t shy away from the hard facts. He understands that there are numerous shades of gray beneath every sugar coated story in history. He presents the historical figures involved as human rather than myth. There was no question that he shied away from, nor that he couldn’t answer. This, folks, is a definitive tour at a great value. I highly recommend, and will likely return soon to book again.

This walking tour was a definite highlight during our 3 day visit to the city. Palmer was so knowledgable and provides so much information. Her commentary entertained our 11 and 14 year olds as well. Next time we visit Charleston, we will definitely look into another tour provided by Oyster Point Tours.

I had two friends visit from out of town and one of them asked to do a tour with Oyster Point walking tours because she had read about them. Palmer was a great tour guide. She was very knowledgeable, open to questions, and had lots of suggestions of ways to follow up on areas of interest. I would definitely recommend this tour for those interested in learning about the history of Charleston!
