The Bitterroot National Forest is an incredibly beautiful and rugged place with amazing mountains and deep glacial canyons. The trails are not always well maintained, and often times seasonal creeks will deter folks who aren't used to water crossings. You'll be glad you brought a guide along!

The hike and packraft float is an experience unique to Bitterroot Backpacking. You will not find any other guide or company providing this service! (And if you do, they probably found the idea here!)

I had such an amazing trip with Bitterroot backpacking and would recommend it to anyone! The scenery was gorgeous and truly a hidden paradise. The gear, food, and vibes were all top notch and I learned so much from Luke. I will absolutely go on more trips with Bitterroot Backpacking in the future!

My wife, son, and I did the 6 mile Camas Trail today. Our son is 6 and we were a little worried it might be too much for him. The hike up was a little challenging but Luke made it the best experience. Every time our son was slowing down, Luke talked to him and kept him focused. Before we knew it we were at the lake and man it did not disappoint. The whole experience was amazing. The trails, waterfalls, the float, and Luke’s knowledge and professionalism made it one of a kind. Probably the most beautiful places I have ever been. Can’t wait to book one of the other locations Luke guides.

*The Trip* Luke, the owner, took me on a solo guide trip on a 4 day trip in the mountains of bitterroot region. It was the last week before the end of the season so we had to be prepared for any kind of weather scenario. Luckily Mother Nature was kind and gave a perfect weather conditions being in the 70s in afternoon and low 40s at night (roughly between 5 - 20 Celsius). This made our hiking trip fantastic and full of sun! Our initial plan to hike around Ranger Peak and explore the big rock creek canyon was unavailable due to some remaining wild fire. Luke and his extensive knowledge however meant he always has back-up plans at the ready. His vast knowledge of the region and amount of trips at the ready meant we just diverted to one of the other beautiful spots that Bitterroot region has to offer! Luke is well-prepared and super knowledgeable of the paths we took and the area we were exploring. At the meeting point Luke had all the camp/backpacking gear ready to go and made sure I felt comfortable with what we were using for the days I was with him. As someone who does not regularly go camping and had never been backpacking, Luke was a true guide. He is honestly well prepared. And has backup plans at the ready for when the hike didn’t go according to plan. Luke is always calm, professional and ready to do whatever was necessary. Together we pushed my boundaries in bushwhacking hiking and reached the top of the canyon having amazing views and a rewarding sense of accomplishment! The smile on Luke his face when we made it is a price by itself, haha! *Preparation* Being from The Netherlands, Europe, I had to plan a bit further ahead than average. Luke was easy going and had everything set out for me using clear lists of stuff to bring, and where I forgot a thing or 2, he always had an alternative at the ready. In my case set of gloves and warm hat and a head-light for those dark moments in the tent. Easy to forget! haha. Having a videocall during the preparation phase was a great way to get to know one another and allowed me to ask specific questions that were important for me. Luke was an amazing guide for our entire experience! He made sure we all had a great time on our trip. You can tell how much he truly loves what he does. If you aren’t familiar with the Montana area and all it has to offer, make sure to book a trip with Luke! He will make sure you get to see and experience some genuinely amazing places while you’re there! In short: Luke is able to provide you a superb experience and gives you an unforgettable trip!
