My family of five had a wonderful experience with this company. Luke the owner was our personal guide and was amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and backpacking in general. We learned a ton and had a blast. We hiked to Camas Lake, ate lunch relaxed and we were able to catch absolutely beautiful trout ( too many to count). A fun, educational and safe experience for our entire family. Oh and I forgot to mention- no crowds, no lines just you and the outdoors. Do not hesitate! Book Luke for a trip. You will not regret it.

My friends and I had the best time exploring the beauty of Montana with Bitterroot Backpacking. Luke was incredibly knowledgable about the area, wildlife, and best practices when in the wilderness. We went kayaking in the Flathead National Forest and we were in awe of the beauty that Montana provided. It was incredibly peaceful and Luke found a beautiful place that was remote and not inundated with tourists. We can't wait to explore Montana with Luke again!

I cannot state enough positive words about Luke and his Bitterroot Backpacking! I gave him the slightly unusual challenge of following in the footsteps of my gt gt grandfather who moved to Montana in the 1880s. I sent him over a couple of newspaper articles about a hunting trip he had made in the 1890s and Luke was able to present multiple options ahead of the trip. His communications ahead of my trip were fantastic and he arrived ontime for the start of the day hike. During the day, he was flexible in approach and answered any questions I had. Luke is very personable and has an infectious enthusiasm for the great outdoors. He is very knowledgable about the nature around him and gave me a good sense of Montana's flora and fauna. Luke was also very supportive and helped me without asking with my snowshoes before even knowing I had arthritis in my knee. Want a photo along the hike? I genuinely felt it was no trouble to ask and Luke volunteered to take at several points along the way. He was very easy to talk to and took a great interest in why I was in Montana as well as about back home in Scotland. He even volunteered to do a wee video on a frozen lake when I told him it was World Gaelic week...even singer Julie Fowlis commented how good it was! Montana is such a stunning place to visit and Luke has many routes/ stunning trails off the beaten track that you simply would not know about as a tourist. I would also suggest if you are visiting Montana to take heed that the space is shared with wildlife - bears, rattlesnakes etc, so it really makes sense to take a guide with you who knows where best to visit, and how to visit safely with minimum impact on the local environment. Bitterroot Backpacking also have all the correct equipment for you to use too such as snow shoes, and on our trip Luke brought along a drink and snacks to keep our energy levels up! All in all, if you are visiting Montana, whatever your type of trip, I would thoroughly recommend reaching out to Luke!
