The Bitterroot National Forest is an incredibly beautiful and rugged place with amazing mountains and deep glacial canyons. The trails are not always well maintained, and often times seasonal creeks will deter folks who aren't used to water crossings. You'll be glad you brought a guide along!

The hike and packraft float is an experience unique to Bitterroot Backpacking. You will not find any other guide or company providing this service! (And if you do, they probably found the idea here!)

What an outstanding experience we had! Luke is personable, warm, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the geology, flora, and history of the Bitterroot Mountains. He communicated with us very well, and was very responsive to our questions. He arranged an easy meeting place, then led us further into the Bitterroot Mountains by car. The hike itself was through gorgeous country and had just the right amount of adventure. The hike destination was a beautiful mountain lake. Luke’s addition of the pack rafts to the experience was so enjoyable. He inflated them in just a few minutes and we enjoyed paddling around the pristine Alpine lake. While we paddled, Luke made us hot tea and a delicious lunch. We highly recommend this Hike and Float adventure to others as a way to experience the Montana wilderness with a knowledgeable guide.

Luke was an outstanding guide. He adjusted our hiking speed to our group’s physical capability, was encouraging and funny, and was happy to share his knowledge of the Bitterroots and the outdoors in general. The pack rafting portion of the hike was also great - it was a wonderful addition to our hikes, and is a unique part of the experience. I would happily hike with Luke again.
