See the only remaining restored Gangster Era site on this historic tour of extensive caves carved into the hillside in long-abandoned mining ventures in the 1800s. Later it was a mushroom farm, and it was then developed into a restaurant casino and gangsters' hotspot during the 1930s prohibition era. Newspapers reported an unsolved gangland murder at the casino. Tour guides point out the bullet holes. Some believe the caves are haunted by the murdered mobsters whose bodies were never found. The original bar from the 30s has been fully restored - it was a then-record at 60 feet long.

Though this tour is appropriate for all ages, we recommend ages 5 and up, due to shorter attention spans and restlessness.

Although most people on the tour seemed to enjoy it, we were quite disappointed. We were expecting a history tour and this seemed more like a one person (the tourguide) theatrical performance with requested audience participation, She was good at what she did but the theatrics went overboard at the expense of the history.

Great story to hear. And it's pretty cheap for what you get to see and learn. It's 55 degrees inside so plan accordingly. No steps needed so ok for mobility chains and scooters. Children might be bored. Not a tradition cave with formations.

Knowledgeable and very funny tour guide. Cool caves (it's actually a mine) with an interesting history. Lots of real gangster stories. Highly recommended. You should definitely consider bringing older kids. Our guide really incorporated a couple of kids into the tour in a way that was fun for everyone and not embarrassing for them. After the 'Cave Tour,' we did the Gangster Bus Tour. The Gangster tour was also a lot of fun with some interesting, weird, exciting, and funny gangster stories. We would rate that tour 4 / 5 stars because there isn't a lot to look at from the inside of a bus. Again, our guide was excellent and we had a lot of fun.
