The next stop is some forested private property just outside the village. We occasionally see coastal brown bears here, so have your camera ready. This is where Srisa and I pick the wild Alaska berries you will be enjoying in your dessert at the crab feast. We also have a small garden and orchard. We enjoy talking about what it takes to survive and thrive in our remote location.

Next, it's back to the village to see our friends at the carving shed. This is your chance to watch local Tlingit master carvers craft totem poles from yellow cedar logs.

When we were planning our stop in Icy Strait, Alaska we wanted to get away from the commercial/tourist area right around the port and explore the local town. So we looked here on Trip Advisor and found good reviews for this adorable crab restaurant, owned by a local couple, with a fun tour option. Todd and Srisa were both so friendly and welcoming. Todd gave the tour and it was a lot of fun and really informative. It was especially neat to haul in and pick out our own live crabs (no frozen crabs here!!) The tour of the village, wood working demonstration, and seeing where they picked the berries they used in our dessert was also a lot of fun. But my favorite part was learning the history of their restaurant. It’s a beautiful building with incredible views over the water, a lovely patio with hand built seating areas, and I appreciated the clean bathroom! I think my son’s favorite part was when Todd showed him how to cook and clean his own crab. The crab was delicious and Srisa’s Thai dipping sauce was a perfect addition! The whole experience was a solid 5 stars.

The owners were so personable and gracious! We missed the pickup by a few minutes, but they sent a car back for us, then had us stay after to get the part of the tour we missed! It was very unique and special, feel like we made new friends. The crab was fantastic, gave us each a whole crab and Thai rice, home made cheesecake for dessert! They even offered more crab if we were still hungry, too. Best tour of our whole cruise!
