This tour was so much fun thanks to the tour guides, Nico and Sophie but also very interesting watching the sea lions. We managed to see seals and dolphins swimming as well.

OK, first off you gotta understand that my wife is pretty much a complete NON SWIMMER!!!!! Now, that being said, if you have any sense of adventure in you AT ALL, you must take the 7 Caves Kayak tour the next time you are in San Diego. Tyler was our guide, and he was absolutely personable, friendly, full of knowledge, helpful, you name it... everything you would want in a tour guide Tyler was it! The rest of the gang were aces as well! Unfortunately for us, it was the crappiest weather (56 and drizzle), and the ocean was a little more restless than usual too. But DAMMIT, the gang there made it a fun experience that we will not forget. Our group had one double kayak (my wife and I), as well as 4 singles plus Tyler, our guide. It took us three tries to launch our kayak thanks to the rough seas, but once we got out beyond the waves, this tour was great! Tyler explained just about everything he could about the harbor and its ecosystem. He gave a great, informative chat on the caves as we kayaked around the harbor. His knowledge of how the ocean would react to our kayaks and vice-versa was spot on. The talk he gave about the seals and sea lions was head and shoulders above anything we learned on shore. (I betcha didn't know that 40% of the sea lion population has syphilis!). Our guides who finally successfully pushed out kayak out into the surf were super careful of my wife (and her lack of ability to swim very well). She was very much at ease throughout the entire kayak tour, even at the end as we wiped out coming into shore (kayak surfing)! After our tour of the harbor, hot showers were available and the staff was again helpful and fun. My wife and I will be back, but in September, so we can get closer to the caves, as the weather should be much better than it is in late April!

We had an enjoyable kayaking afternoon, with guide Griffin, who was entertaining and knowledgeable. But the water ended up not being suitable to enter the caves by kayak. They offered a voucher to enter land-side. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to get our mixed party of five (60s thru teens) in, in afternoon. If you have time restrictions, I would recommend reserving ahead. Otherwise, note that you might not be able to get into your preferred time slot, as they fill quickly, but they go out at lots of different times. We looked in some of the shops while waiting. They have changing facilities, lockers and showers on site. I'd recommend water shoes to get to beach, if your feet are sensitive to the hot sidewalks/pavement. We noticed that many people left their shoes down at the beach, while kayaking. They have single and double kayaks available. Our group used both as some had never kayaked before. They give instructions and help you through, but count on getting wet, no matter. You are going thru waves to get out into the bay (bound to be some splashing), then kayak "surfing" back in. Remember your sunscreen!!
