Just a few minutes away from all the hustle and bustle of Sarasota is our favorite local beach, Turtle Beach. It is only a few short miles from the main Siesta Key beach to Turtle Beach and the Sarasota County trolley will drop you right there. Not only is this area such a beautiful and quiet place, it is also a great place to paddle!

We start on the intercostal and paddle down a short canal to the Bay. We paddle around the mangrove islands through a mangrove tunnel or two and alongside a bird rookery.

We paddle around the mangrove islands of Jim Neville Marine Preserve and then to a "secret" beach. This beach is only accessible by boat so we may have it to ourselves. Such a beautiful place for a quick swim or just stopping for a few moments to relax. You may want to stay here all day.

This location is home to all kinds of wildlife including manatees (when water temps are warm enough), dolphins, beautiful sea and shorebirds and lots of fish.

The mangrove tunnels were unique and very interesting. Our guide Orion, was very very informative and personable. The pace was relaxed and we kayaked about 2 hours. We saw cormorants and flying fish. No dolphins but hey, that's nature. Orion knows his stuff and made the excursion fun. The kayaks were good, equipment was fine. You definitely want to do this.

My husband and I rented a tandem kayak through Surfit and we had a great day! Staff was very friendly and I loved that it was a family business. It was a beautiful day and the mangrove tunnels were really cool. Staff answered all of our questions so we could figure out how to navigate around the tunnels. Also, I thought they were reasonably priced compared to the other companies. I would definitely recommend!

Thanks for appreciating family businesses. We do put a lot of work into it. You can see all of us (Aaron and I, plus our two teenagers) down there on weekends moving boats and doing tours. Thanks for the recommendation and the review!

Orion was our guide. Very bubbly and nice guy! He had a lot of interesting facts that I enjoyed listening to. Saw lots of wildlife. Definitely worth it!! Would go back again. Definitely hit it if you're looking for beautiful wildlife.
