We were a group of two couples with limited experience on the water. We were picked up beside our cruise ship and driven a pleasant drive to the kayak dock. There we had some safety instructions and were fitted with life jackets and a kayak skirt to keep us dry. It had been a 7.30am pick up and we feared we might feel cold but we did not. Our two person kayaks were surprisingly stable. We paddled in convoy along the shore then out to an island in the little bay. It was sheltered from the sea and there were no waves except when a speed boat passed us. We had close views of a nesting pair of bald eagles and several harbour seals, one of which seemed to follow the kayaks. We were told of porpoises beneath us and of humpback whales which had been seen close by very recently. Our convoy of about six kayaks with two guides, appeared to be made up of three fast paddling kayaks and three slow ones. The guides tactfully divided us into a fast group which circumnavigated the island and a slow group which stayed at the near end of the island with the eagles and seals. Nobody got wet! We had to be a little agile to lower ourselves from the jetty into our craft. There was a shop selling snacks and merchandise on site in an otherwise quiet and peaceful setting.

My wife and I chose this as our shore excursion when our cruise ship stopped in Ketchikan. We had a great time paddling across the ocean between islands, watching bald eagles fly to and from their nest and even saw a couple of harbor seals along the way. Beautiful scenery and an excellent guide provided for an excellent adventure.

We actually got to go on two kayak excursions and a zip line tour while we were in Ketchikan for a week. We had such a great time with Ty and Megan that we requested them for the other tours. Kayaking was wonderful both times. The first was a little cool and misty but we were out at Tatoosh Island and it was so beautiful that it was worth a little chill. Eagle Island tour was great weather and we were able to see all kinds of wildlife like seals and seal pup, starfish, and more. Ziplining was terrifying for me as I don't like heights but it was so fun and Ty and Megan were super patient with me. The rest of the family don't suffer from my fears and they loved every minute. Highly recommend Southeast Exposure!
