Pros - Enjoyed being on the water in the sun...The guides were fun, friendly and helpful - Sharing knowledge of the critters and local stories. We enjoyed seeing the sea life that they were finding and pointing out. Cons - We were not able to freely go into the caves due to high wave action. Guides would take individual kayaks into the cave under their control while others just floated around waiting. Neutral - Seemed to be killing time while challenging clients to stand up in kayak for 10 seconds...fun for those trying it but more time just sitting in boats waiting.

Growing up in LA, went to San Diego so many times, even as an adult and never did the La Jolla Caves sea kayak until now. It is so worth it if you like sea kayaking and want a different view of San Diego. First of all, they provide everything, even a wet suit if you need it. I recommend coming with water shoes but you can wear your own waterproof athleisure wear. Waterproof is not necessary but bring a change of clothes and a towel. The guides are knowleable. Just pay attention and follow their instructions. Even if you are a couple or a group, we did single kayak. More manageable...the tandem kayaks seem to always crash into other kayaks and less manageable even with "decent" teamwork. After kayaking, there are plenty of places to eat and drink in that strip of La Jolla on Avenida De La Playa. If there are accidents and bad conditions, you not be able to go into the caves. However, this experience is still worth it and a great day in La Jolla if you want to do an activity.

Nice kayak trip but time in the cave was very short, maybe one minute in and out. The guides were good but overall it was a lot of paddling. And it was closer to a two hour excursion instead of 90 minutes. Nearly everyone in the group had their kayak turn over coming back in so we all had a spill in the ocean. It was okay but I probably wouldn’t do it again.
