As a former NYC tour guide, I can say that Made in Brooklyn's Dom Gervasi is a gem. He has researched his tours extensively and paints a wonderful portrait of each neighborhood's past, at the same time exploring all that's going on currently. His points of interest may not be typical (monuments, churches, etc.) but they are so relevant and interesting. Where else would you get to see the inside of an e-waste facility? So cool. I've done four out of five of his tours and look forward to doing the fifth. In fact, I wish he would develop some more for other neighborhoods. Go on one of his tours, whether you are a tourist or a native New Yorker, you will learn lots about the wonderful land of Brooklyn!

My family and I took the Red Hook tour - 9 persons including a 12 and 16 year old, on a recent Sunday. Dom is an historian tour guide and has made arrangements with key artisans in the area to let you into their workshops - their products are unique and quite different from one another. The "makers" theselves are from different parts of the country but have made their way to Red Hook where the 19th century warehouse venues seem to be a perfect venue for their work. This would be a great tour for anyone interested in design. One stop - "She Welds" - offers blacksmithing classes, really neat. Dom relates a good amount of local geographic, economic and social history along the way. The area is quite safe and is a short drive from the BQE if one drives. This tour is literally olong the waterfront, the best views of the Statue of Liberty and Givernors Island from Brooklyn. There are local restaurants on Van Brunt Street that are worth a try. Highly recommend for a afternoon. Skip the flea markets and the "smorgasburg" in other parts of Brooklyn, this tour is more interesting and we'll try another area in the future..

My friend and I decided to take a day off from work. While we're local to the NYC area, we wanted to explore Red Hook, an area of Brooklyn that wasn't well known to us. A quick search pointed to Dom's "Made in Brooklyn Tours." Dom is enthusiastic, native to Brooklyn, and a virtual fountain of knowledge! He is well-known within the community and his affiliations provided us access to the movers and shakers that are the backbone of Brooklyn's "maker" revolution - the very amazing people who produce artisanal food, beverages, products and textiles. Dom's passionate story-telling painted a great backdrop for each neighborhood we visited. Once our tour was complete, we had uncovered the hidden treasures of Red Hook's vibrant past and learned so much about the active community driving Red Hook's future. Each of these were elements of the area that a casual visitor to Red Hook would not know without the benefit of a guide like Dom. If you're in the Brooklyn area, as a tourist or even as a local, I highly recommend Made in Brooklyn Tours. Dom provides an amazing experience that will leave you appreciating the wonderful communities in Brooklyn.
