This Manta Ray Snorkel was truly the experience of a lifetime. Getting to see these amazing animals up close was awe inspiring, and something that I will never forget. I'm a "non swimmer," but the crew helped me to be comfortable and made sure I was able to participate. If you cannot swim, be sure to let them know ahead of time so they can provide you with additional flotation and keep a closer eye on you. The captain and crew do an amazing job balancing safety and concern for people with care and conservation of the Manta Rays. If they seem a little stern at times, it is out of their great love for these creatures and for your safety. I would not recommend this activity for children under 12, as the responsibility that you have as a participant for your own safety and for following crew directions to the letter is significant, and that's a lot to ask of a child.

After much research we booked Manta Adventures for the Manta Ray Night Snorkel and were thrilled with our choice. Captain Bill and his crew Shawna and Aubrey were awesome and took great care of our family of 11 that included a 4yr old!! Personal attention given to everyone! During the booking process our daughter mentioned this was part of a family vacation celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We were so touched when Shawna surprised us with a cheesecake and 50th Anniversary greeting card from the boat crew!! Such a personal gesture was truly appreciated! The Manta Snorkel was an awesome experience and seeing them swim up so close to the board and doing barrel rolls was unbelievable! There were 3 or 4 different Rays that kept coming up and rolling so close I saw straight down the throat of one as he was eating the plankton drawn to the underside of the lighted platform. It was also a great experience for our family members who did not get in the water. They saw the Mantas from the boat as Captain Bill would spot them swimming towards us and call out where to look! Shawna and Aubrey took great care of us in the water making sure all were ok and calling out the incoming Rays. (At one point inconsiderate scuba divers (suspected to be from “Neptune Charlie’s - The Manta boat) invaded our area and the lights shining in our eyes and air bubbles obscured our view, but our watchful Captain Bill got their attention and got them to back off away from our area.). Once we were out of the water a hot shower and Captain Bill’s homemade chocolate chip cookies were a hit!! On a side note, Major KUDOS to Captain Bill for jumping from the bridge deck into the water to aid a girl swimming towards our boat screaming for help! (Our boat was moored at the time) Shawna also jumped in with a flotation to help the girl who strayed from her snorkel group and apparently panicked when she lost her snorkel mask. Her group’s guide eventually got to her and took over. Captain Bill pointed out that is an example of the importance of having a guide attentive to his group at all times, which he and his crew exhibited the entire time! To sum it up we highly recommend Manta Adventures and the Manta Night Snorkel for the experience of a lifetime. Thanks Captain Bill, Shawna and Aubrey for taking care of us and again the thoughtful anniversary cake and card! The Morici Family

I loved the late night manta experience. Yes, the manta rays were incredible. They got right up close and flipped for us many times in a row! But the guides made this trip truly exceptional. I've been out with other companies and had no complaints, but this experience was wildly superior. Unlike with other companies, I actually LEARNED about the mantas! I didn't know they lived longer than humans or that Kona is the only place in the world where these mantas belly roll underwater. Shauna (deckhand) and Bill (captain) are amazing too. Shauna took time to get to know everyone on the boat by name (impressive!) Despite traveling solo, I never felt alone because of the attentive staff and friendly participants. We arrived at the mooring ball early. If you want to get in & get out, this isn't the experience for you. This tour is thorough and not a quick adventure, but I really preferred it that way. It's not the cheapest boat, but the extra $5 gets you twice the amenities & service. We got HOT showers after the dive! Fresh pineapple and bottled water were included as well.
