The title says it all: we canoed across the Mendenhall Lake to the Mendenhall Glacier, donned our crampons, hiked to the glacer and entered an ice cave, all made possible by the 3 great guides: Ben, Casey and Joey. Not much else to say, but read on for details.
Arranged separately from the NCL cruise, it was a short ride from the embarkation point to the lake where we were geared up with boots, pants, rain jacket, helmet and gloves. It was about 45 of moderate canoeing to the glacier with several rest stops. Upon landing, we walked a bit before putting on the crampons. Our guides lead us across the glacier, to some small glacial pools and into an ice cave. The nearly two hours on the glacier was over in an instant
The experience could not have been better.
