We did this tour around end of june. The guides were great. The canoe ride and the hike on top of the glacier is amazing. The small snack pack and hot drinks after we come back is good but my reason for giving this 3 stars is that they are falsely advertising the ice cave part of the tour.
When we booked the tour and even as of today, the description page says this
"Glaciers are constantly changing and so are glacial features including the famous Mendenhall Glacier Ice Caves. If our guides locate a glacier ice cave, you'll be able to explore it's stunning blue walls and ceiling under safe conditions. We cannot guarantee any specific glacial features including caves. "
However, when we met the guide and asked about this, we were told that the last good ice cave collapsed around a year ago and it takes time for newer ones to show up.
So technically, its not a phenomenon that can change on a day to day basis and they havent had an ice cave exploration in over a year but they still advertise it as if, hey if you are lucky you may get to see it.
Why not update the description to what it really is? For the beauty and the adventure of the tour, people will still end up going for it. And if there is no ice cave exploration for over a year, it takes two mouse clicks to update description on the site and a few keyboard click to type it if/when it comes back again.

Thanks for the feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you loved the tour !
However we are a very surprised that you got the wrong expectations when booking. We do not advertise with photos of ice caves on any of our booking sites, because we know many people are looking specifically for ice cave tours, which we cannot offer. That being said, we do offer one of the best chances of exploring ice caves, due to the location of the tour, and it being one of the most extended glacier explorations in Juneau.
Since ice caves come and go, and are just an added bonus on some glacier treks, we try to avoid advertising ice caves at all. This is why the only mention to ice caves on our booking sites is the disclaimer, saying that certain features are not always formed and can't be guaranteed. We do have to keep the disclaimer, due to the large number of reviews and guest photos posted online talking about ice caves on our tour (even the reviews right before and after this one).
For clarification, at this time, there has been 3 separate caves formed at different times this summer that have been stable enough for some groups to enter. Also there is 1 cave that has been here most of the season, which is to dangerous to approach. Last summer there were 3 stable caves at different times. Each cave forms and melts at a different location, and there are many times each summer where no caves can be viewed on tour.
The Mendenhall Glacier is a flowing river of ice that moves and melts so rapidly that ice features can indeed come and go in a matter of days. If your guides didn't make all of this clear, we would ask that you message us the names of your particular guides and we will be discussing this thoroughly with them to make sure all guest are well informed in the future!
Hope this information helps.
Once again we thank you, and are glad that you had the chance to experience the incredible Mendenhall Glacier!
