FUN! I've never been on a food tour before. My friend Brian and his wife said "come with us, it'll be fun". With Brian, that's usually always true so I agreed. When I first met John I thought he was fun and engaging but I was hungry so for the first 45 minutes or so my only thought was "ok can we eat something now??" I had skipped breakfast and it was 2 something with only a small snack to get me by. Lesson #1 - Make sure and eat something before you go. The food portions you'll get on the tour aren't huge so don't think you're going to OD if you have a decent breakfast. There is some walking involved. Our first stop was something I would never order but it was really good...could've been that I was hungry but the flavors were dancing on my tongue and it was about time! (John asked that we don't say what it was so as to not spoil the surprise for his other guests) After eating at the first stop, lots of historical info along the way, I thought...I'm not going to be able to eat much more. Although the portion wasn't huge and I didn't eat all of the side that was served with it, I was full. John had a solution for that... After the first meal, we walked for quite a distance, stopping along the way to chat about the history of the area, something John knows quite a lot about. By the time I got to the second stop, and omg it was yummy, I was ready to eat again. Lesson #2 - Trust John, he knows what he's doing. Eat up! The stops got closer together after the second stop and we tried a variety of foods. I think there were 5 stops in all and they were all top notch spots. One thing I noticed...John has a soft spot in his heart for the wait staff at every stop. He knows virtually all of them and they know and respect him. That said a lot to me. He also spoke glowingly of his wife. That was nice too. We got to meet her briefly and she was delightful. I most definitely recommend this tour to any and all. John a great guy and knows the area very well. The food selections were great and I'll go again if given the opportunity.

Rob, My fault on the "Skip Breakfast!" advice I give to all of my groups. We usually start a Tour either at 9:30am or 10:30am, and considering the amount of food you get to sample, Skip Breakfast is great advice!! But...when a group starts at 1:00pm, I should adjust that "great advice". If I had been one of the group...and hadn't had any breakfast...that first 30 minutes would have a whole lot longer when hunger takes a front seat!! So...TA Readers: Skip the first third of Rob's review...and go to the good part! Ha!! Thanks, Rob, for taking a moment (or two) to describe your day with me...and for pointing out that even after 2 1/2 years of my foodie fun, there is always something that I can do better! I wished you lived closer so I could buy you drink! You're the best! John

Got talked into taking this tour by some friends, it didn't take long before I realized I was in for a real treat. Tasting great food, while learning about the evolution of the neighborhood of Midtown, the history of Atlanta, and the restaurant scene in Midtown. Our group was lively and fun and our guide John, made the whole experience the highlight of our trip to Atlanta.

"Our group was lively and fun"! Now Jack! That's an understatement if I ever heard one! You should at least put a capital "L" on lively and a capital "F" on fun! For me, it was a perfect tour! Everyone chatted and laughed and asked great questions and then there was all that great food!! Yahoo! Let's do this again! Thanks, Jack! You made a terrific "leader of the pack"!! My best! John

My friend and I had a really good time on this tour. I've been on a couple of food tours before, and this one was by far the best-- John is so knowledgeable and friendly! It felt less like a tour and more like spending an afternoon with an old friend. Oh, and the food is phenomenal!

"This one was by far the best"!! Gotta love those words! Here's hoping that "like spending an afternoon with an old friend" translates into two things. 1. You'll be coming back soon to my little piece of restaurant heaven! 2. When you travel you'll be going on more Food Tours! There's a bunch of good ones out there! Thank you, Mare, for sharing with other TA readers...and certainly for the terrific review!!
