Misty Fjords National Monument

Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less and consisting of 2.3 million acres, an area larger than Yellowstone, makes a seaplane tour the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped, sheer granite cliffs rise dramatically 3,500 out of the sea, ribbonned with waterfalls plummeting sensationally thousands of feet. Nestled within the steep walled canyons, lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations above sea level. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest, made of giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, cling to the rugged rising terrain. Wildlife abounds in the area, with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals. Our most popular tour lasts 2 hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island over to the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located, and into the heart of the monument. Headsets with voice communication are provided to passengers so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly. For the highlight of the tour, we will land on an alpine lake or on a calm bay at sea level and let passengers get off of the floatplane for a quiet excursion. Le passage intérieur de l'Alaska ou le sud-est de l'Alaska abrite certains des paysages les plus époustouflants de la planète. L'un de ses joyaux est le majestueux monument national des Misty Fjords. Complètement sans route et composé de 2,3 millions d'acres, une superficie plus grande que Yellowstone, fait d'un tour en hydravion le seul moyen de découvrir confortablement les nombreux niveaux différents dans les fjords profonds et étroits. Plus spectaculaires que le Grand Canyon, les fjords sont des entrées de mer aux parois abruptes. Créées il y a longtemps par les gouges glaciaires, les falaises de granit enneigées et abruptes s'élèvent de façon spectaculaire à 3 500 mètres au-dessus de la mer, entourées de chutes d'eau plongeant de manière sensationnelle à des milliers de pieds. The flight to the Misty Fjord with Michelle was fantastic. She was very professional and knowledgeable about the area. The weather was great and we docked in the middle of the Fjord. The area was beautiful and we took some great shots of the area. This was an experience I will not forget and I highly recommend the tour!

We had been planning an Alaska trip for years. We knew when the time was right, we wanted to take Michelle's seaplane trip through Misty Fjords. She always had rave reviews. 2019 proved to be our year for Alaska and despite news of 2 crashes with another company, we felt confident in Michelle's abilities. We made the right decision. The trip with her was wonderful! We saw some amazing and breathtaking scenery. Michelle has a great personality. She is down to earth, friendly and very knowledgeable about Alaska. We enjoyed all her stories. Don't worry if it's raining when you get off the ship, by the time we flew high and away, the weather changed and got much nicer. It was also enjoyable to get off the plane to take pictures and soak in the beauty of our surroundings. Michelle's assistant Shona, efficiently runs the office operations and our pick up, drop off and payments went smoothly. My husband and I are older adults and our adult children came with us as well. Everyone enjoyed this trip.

Dear qawtrld, Thank you for your lovely review! Yes weather does change a great deal here, both from one minute to the next and from one area to the next. Often Ketchikan is the rainiest, foggiest, windiest place around this area. It is very common for the weather to be much better over in the fjords than it is here. Sometimes I would like to go back in time and ask the founding fathers "Just what were you thinking???" Shona has been with me for 13 years now. Longevity speaks volumes for our employee/employer relationship. She is my right hand and does an amazing job at keeping us all organized and in the air. She like it best when the pilots are all out flying and not in her office! :) Thank you again for flying with me and for trusting me to fly you and your family safely through some of the most beautiful scenery on earth! Picked up this trip in the visitor center on the dock. Was on a cruise for the week in Alaska and this was the best trip by far. Very smooth flight. Michelle is a great pilot and great guide. If you have any nerves forget them and take this one!

Dear frank12sept, Glad to hear you enjoyed your flight with us!! Perhaps you flew on one of our cloudy/overcast/rainy days? The flights on those days are the smoothest because the air stays cool and remains at an even temperature. On sunny days, the air gets heated up and produces thermal activity and can make the air quite rough. As pilots we prefer the overcast skies, as it is such a pleasure to fly in smooth air without any turbulence!! Most non-pilots however wish for sunny days because they are unaware of how rough it can be! Thank you for taking the time to write a review and wishing you many happy trails! All the best, Michelle
