Capitol Reef National Park

Your tour will continue on 4x4 roads past the iconic and inspiring Factory Butte to the Martian like Bentonite Hills, a softly sculpted and rainbow colored landscape comparable to the surface of Mars! A truly unique and beautiful experience. If you have a drone this is the perfect place to use it for some incredible photo opportunities. After the Bentonite Hills we’ll head back to the starting point, passing through the Fremont River

i have already reviewed Factory Butte and Moonscape overlook you can check those reviews posted at same time. This post focusses on the Bentonite Hills experience. WE had no problem finding this place cause we had searched You tube for others directions which we screenshoted before we left and we made sure to set the GPS when we had service to the Mars Research canter which takes you to the turn north while travelling towards Hanksville east. Once we got to the research station the road really does become rougher and rougher i would say high clearance with 10 ply tires minimum due to the sharp shredding tires type stones on the road and huge dips and climbs to get in there. We were confused after we spotted the research station on the left as we saw people in there with campers we kept going past and followed the road to large clearing where other vehicles were parked. It was near sunset so we quickly got out and climbed as high as we could to see the sights. we were disappointed it does not look like the photoshopped pics on line with rings of white purple and blue but we did see rings of orange, red and white. it was almost dark and very warm out so us and another couple we met there were staying overnight with the intention of seeing the hills at sunrise. It was also our 35th wedding anniversary and we got up before the sun and hiked up high and was not disappointed watching the rings really pop near the parking area and a bit beyond of orange, red and white with hues of light blue that we never saw at sunset. This was a fun way to spent a couple hours here at sunrise which i highly recommend. its very hot here so bring water and good grip shoes the terrain is rough if you are climbing up which some people went really high

This tour more than exceeded our expectations. Elizabeth was our guide and 4x4 driver.We felt immersed in the landscape and not just viewing it.She shared her passion and knowledge of the area.She did an amazing job driving off beatin path.It was an exciting 4x4 experience ending with fording the Fremont river.
