I consider it the most "bang for the buck" in our Washington trip. Clean, friendly folk, a lot to see, descriptive information. Wonderful!

The mansion is currently undergoing renovations, but for Washington’s Birthday Weekend, it was open for a walk through. Well. It’s definitely a work in progress! The interior was devoid of any furniture with the exception of a harpsichord (piano). We were walking on taped down paper, and there was really nothing to see. So glad it was free this “special “ weekend. There were ceremonies on the “bowling green” but it was so cold and windy, we left. I’m sure during the spring and fall it would be a magnificent site with everything either booming or turning to fall colors. Front facing the Potomac is an exceptional site. Call before you go to make sure it’s a real tour. The guides who were there barely said or did anything as there wasn’t anything for them to tell you about. Sad.

“This is the only time in the next century you will see this.” Mount Vernon is going through renovations and you can see the exposed woodwork and architecture of the mansion. This is a limited edition experience is worth it.
