We love ice cream, so this was a must see on our road trip up to Waco. When we made the detour to see this gem, it was a pleasant surprise to find it located amongst a beautiful shopping center in the Austin area. The employee at the door let us know how to buy tickets online, and we were on our way. They provided us with a pink lemonade popsicle during our short wait outside, and when we hopped in, the fun began. After a fun cheering session and creative name tags, we entered the first of two rounds for the free ice cream inside (or included in the ticket price I should say).
We were advised that the ice cream sampling was unlimited as long as you did not move backwards in the museum pathway. They did not make it clear that there were only 2 free ice cream stops within the museum, so that would be an area for improvement. I did ask at the first stop, but it was not clarified. It was also very expensive for the quality of the ice cream, lack of topping opportunities, and lacking history of ice cream which would also be an area they could improve. It's more of a kid experience, which we enjoyed, but it's kind of tough to qualify it as a true museum. There were only a few info plaques scattered throughout.
Anyway, after the first sampling, we made our way through a few fun exhibits, which included other goodies like caramel popcorn and cotton candy. The second and final free ice cream sampling focused on different country varieties. Both ice cream areas had dairy free options. The final room included a swimming dry pool filled with fake sprinkles. We did not hop in, but supposedly there is a golden sprinkle hidden inside! The tour ends with a pay by item ice cream shop combined with a gift shop. Even with some of these drawbacks I still think it is a must see, as long as you aren't worried about the overpriced factor :).
