Wish I hadn't waited so long to see this museum. Figures, as it is in my backyard. Yes, it is expensive, but look for discounts (especially if you use Bank of America). Yes, parking can be expensive (we parked at the Ritz parking lot). Okay, bad stuff out of the way.
I am one of those who reads everything and watches every movie, and I loved every minute of the five hours I spent at the museum. I have to go back, as I only got half way through the main exhibit. I didn't have time to finish or see the special exhibit. If I am correct, admission is good for two days. The technology is beyond anything I expected. One can follow timelines on touch screens (with ways to dig deeper for more information), take a closer 3D look (including turning items around) on other touch screens, following army routes, and more. I recommend finding out what movies are playing at what times and making sure to see as many as possible. Some are continuous loops and are part of the exhibit route. Others are timed (Lenfest theatre on the first floor and the Tent movie on the second floor).
It is a very interactive museum with much that is hands on. The, "War at Sea" room, with a very knowledgeable docent, was great for hands on. The rooms are divided into various aspects of the American Revolution and delve nicely into the how and why.
Hubby and I purchased the audio tour (inexpensive). Hubby loved it and felt it enhanced the experience. I thought it was okay and not totally necessary. If you want to be directed to highlights, it is worth purchasing ($5 each as of this review). The audio tour numbers on the walls are not always easy to find and are up a bit high. I had to backtrack a couple of times. (One of the few flaws of the museum.)
Photography is allowed, though no flash.
Ninety-nine percent of the staff are enthusiastically helpful and very nice. (Was surprised at the off-putting attitude of one staff member. Maybe she was having a bad day. Benefit of the doubt. A different staff member more than made up for it with his kindness and assistance.)
We will definitely be back. I really enjoyed being transported into history. I highly recommend the Museum of the American Revolution. (Do be sure to check on any available admission discounts.)
