NASA is a very interesting and educational outing for the whole family. Lots of great exhibits. It takes a lot of time to get thru the exhibits. The only negative is a lot of the exhibits only have space for 2 or 3 people/kids at a time and take 2 to 3 minutes so they can back up quickly. Even during the Summer heat, this was a pretty comfortable. Even in the outdoor where exhibit they have lots of fans going. You need a whole day or more.

I decided to do the NASA & City Tour as I was only in Houston for one full day. The tour is about 7 hours in total starting with a 90 minute city tour in an open top bus - something I did not anticipate. The tour started at 10am and our city guide, Ryan, was very good with facts and information; unfortunately the speakers on the bus weren’t very loud and it made it difficult to hear him at times, especially over the loud woman speaking Spanish! He pointed out key government and historical buildings and told us a little bit of general Texas/Houston history. After the city tour, we were escorted to another bus (with a closed roof) and taken to NASA. The journey is about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Personally I think this should be first on the tour as when you get to NASA, they offer a tram tour which is free but has a ridiculously long queue! Our driver recommend that we join the queue first and it took about 75 minutes before we finally got on the tram - NASA's issue not the tour companies! The tour was 90 minutes which included two main stops. The ride was narrated with key facts but the speakers were so quiet and the road was loud. The first of the two stops on the tour consisted of historic mission control which is the room where all the Apollo missions were controlled from. The second stop was at the education and development centre where robots, space shuttles and space suits are currently being tested. Once the tour was over, we had about 90 minutes to look around the centre itself which was a comfortable amount of time. There’s different areas which focus on different missions, history of NASA etc. and there’s a lot of interactive activities too. It’s a really good place to visit for all ages and all interests; you don’t need to be interested in space to find this place fascinating! I’ll probably never come back to Houston so at least I’ve been able to see NASA in all its glory; for me the highlight was the historic mission control room – it’s such an amazing piece of history! Our bus driver was 15 minutes late picking us up which wasn’t too much of an inconvenience and the traffic wasn’t too bad heading back to the city. There’s a little shop where the tours start and end which is ideal to stock up on water or use the restroom. Overall the tour was really good, especially the city tour which this company actually provided, whereas they only provide the transport to NASA.

We visited with a part of 5. Two grandparents, young parents and a cute grandson, 18 months. We found plenty on interesting stuff for all ages. The baby had stuff that was perfect for his interest, the guys loved the Mission Control Center, the grandparents loved all the memories associated with the Apollo missions. We got to touch a meteorite and see a Saturn V rocket. The tram took us on a great Tour. It was exciting, memorable, moving and inspirational. We can't wait to visit again. The family pass is absolutely the best way to go with admission, if you even think you might visit again in a year. About the same price as 4 adult tickets. Any age group will be interested and there are enough displays to let the science minded get out while the casually interested will still enjoy the exhibits.
