I was really looking forward to this based on all the recommendations but was ultimately left wanting. It was less of a food tour and more of a history tour that happened to involve food. Thats totally fine but I would prefer if my expectations were set correctly before hand. As for the food itself, the best part was the French market but the remaining stops had multiple tastings in each place so again, less of a tour and more of a tasting. Two of the "stops" werent really stops. our guide went into the store, got the tasting and we moved on. On the flip side the places with multiple tastings were long and drawn out. In one restaurant we had po boys and alligator bites and we must have been sat there for an hour waiting to move on. Our guide was Nate. He was a good guide. Knew a lot about the food and a lot about New Orleans but I didnt get the sense he wanted to be there. There was little to no effort to get to know the group and between stops he lead out front with no interaction. The most disappointing part is because we were running behind schedule he ended the tour before bringing us back to the last spot. For the price we paid I expected more. Comparing it to other food tours I have done in New York and Chicago I would not recommend this one. I'm sad to write this as I was so looking forward to the tour and it put a bit of a dampner on our weekend.

This is a great tour if you either a) want a sampling of French Quarter food before risking a meal on one unfamiliar dish, or b) you already love French Quarter food and you want to indulge in almost every aspect of it. Our tour included good-sized portions of: alligator sausage on a stick, muffaletta, crawfish étouffée, chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, bread pudding, and pralines. Make sure you arrive hungry and then pace yourself! Our guide Nate smoothly ushered us through restaurants and patios with ease, all while giving us back stories of the people and cuisine who made the French Quarter seem like a different country.
