My daughter and I were just in NOL and we were fortunate enough to have booked the Garden District tour one morning during our trip...Our guide James led just the 2 of us around this lovely area of NOL for a fact filled 2 hours. James's knowledge of the homes and the cemetery of this area was great and pointed out many great facts about these grand old homes. We wished we had more time to enjoy this companies other tour selections, next time!!

Definitely next time! The summer is hot and business slows down for walking tours, but honestly we make the best connections with our guests in these months. I guess there is just something special about walking around with a tiny group, at a slower place, standing in the shade talking about this great city that brings people together for a memorable couple of hours. Thanks for touring with us, and we sincerely appreciate your review!

My husband and I had a great tour with James. We loved learning about the fascinating history of the Garden District and seeing the lovely architecture. We lucked out in having James all to ourselves, so we peppered him with questions and had great conversation. Due to a funeral, we weren't able to go into the Lafayette Cemetery, but James described (in morbid detail) the unusual burial customs of New Orleans. Very informative and fun and relaxed, well worth our time and $$. Thanks, Yankee!

Thanks for reviewing! It's too bad you were unable to walk around in the cemetery on your tour, but James is very good at describing our weird custom of interment and you can get a good view by the gate. But the stunning architecture of the Garden District offers so many stories, and James is the guy to tell them! Please tour with us again next time you come to New Orleans. We are using our slow time to learn even more stories!

We booked this tour during the week of JazzFest. A few days before we made the booking, we happened to pass through the Garden District and realized that we knew almost nothing about the magnificent houses that we were seeing or the history of such a neighborhood. And so we knew that we had to book a tour and we were very lucky to have found this company. Our guide was David Feldman who was an absolute fountain of information. We met David at a nearby cafe and were pleasantly surprised to find that the rest of our tour group consisted of just two other people. That is where the five of us started our walk through the Garden District. David is supremely knowledgeable in both history and architecture. He points out the architectural features of every single house as well as the historical context that led to its design and creation. He goes a step further still and talks about major renovations as well as the history of ownership up to current time. If you are a fan of architecture, you will walk away from this tour with quite a few architectural terms in your lexicon. David puts you in the shoes of the architects that built some of these houses and talks about their struggles. He even goes into detail about the interior design of the houses and brings along a binder of photos. Of course normally, if you were on your own, you would only see the outside of the house. This is really special because you get an understanding of the design from both outside and inside the house. If you are a fan of history, brace yourself because there is a lot of history in this tour. David goes into historical details behind each of these houses, their business-savvy owners, and the economic conditions that led to those businesses. Of course, unless you consider art to be a business endeavor, you will also learn of the many great artists and writers that once lived in the Garden District. The tour that we took included a walk through the cemetery which was equally as informative and enjoyable. There are many great things to say about this tour and not enough time to say it. David is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge who takes questions and answers them very thoroughly. If you like taking photos, David is very courteous and waits for everyone in the group. My only regret is not bringing a pen and pad. I could not be happier about the tour and I recommend it highly to anyone who is visiting New Orleans.

Thank you so much for your glowing review of your Garden District tour with the talented Mr. Feldman! He really knows his stuff and is an expert at sharing his information with stories, pictures, humorous observations, and follow-up suggestions for further learning. The Garden District is beautiful, but having a knowledgeable guide to tell you the stories behind the houses makes it even more fascinating. We will see you next time you visit with your pad and pen!
