Last time I went to NYC was over 25 years ago and the experience that blew my mind was going up the twin towers. I was therefore really looking forward to going up 1 World observatory. I was with my husband and 3 teenage sons and was shocked at the entrance fee....although to be fair it was in line with the other sky scrapers available. We booked online (no need..it wasnt busy) and we're quickly whizzed up the elevatior.....quite surprised no info given about the design or building of this amazing structure. The whole experience felt like a huge attempt to fleece ys fir money. The hard sell to upgrade once we arrived was pretty full on and I was persuaded to pay an extra 15 dollars for an ipad that would apparently 'enhance my experience'. The rest of my family laughed as I was parted from my money, not succumbing themselves..oh I wish I had listened to them.....it was totally pointless!! We then were lined up with others to watch a totally self indulgent 3 minute film before the screen lifted up to reveal the view...that was actually pretty impressive. We were then left to wander and enjoy the view ourselves. I was really disappointed to realise there was no outside viewing platform (wish I had done my research...perhaps the edge would have been a better option). We were done in 10 mins.....Avoided the overpriced cafe and shop. All very underwhelmed and gutted by how much money we had wasted.
