We had a wonderful tour of Grand Central Terminal! It was entertaining and so interesting! My group had 6 people, ages 10 - 50, so we had a varied age group and we ALL really enjoyed the tour.

This ~90 minute tour provides an interesting overview of Grand Central Terminal's history and some the people of built & restored it. A volunteer from a local NYC historical society takes the tour members on a walking tour through and around the giant building; pointing out some of the interesting architectural details. We each got an earpiece connected via radio to the guide's lapel speaker, so we had no problems hearing her speech inside the occasionally loud station. Our tour guide also passed around pictures to show the "before & after" condition of the station as a recent massive restoration created the current clean and functional look. Note all the places we visited during the tour were in various public areas; some of the older "behind the scenes" areas are no longer open to the public due to deteriorating structures. This tour is a must for anyone's who is interested in turn of the 20th Century architecture or in railroad history. Note that GCT is also hosting an operating Lionel-style operating O Scale layout inside the New York City Transit Museum shop; railroad fans will also want to visit that while in the station.
