An amazing experience. Crew where superb and asked if anyone wanted to help put the sails up. Was a beautiful sunny day and they have a bar which is reasonably priced . Clean toilets. We went very close to the statue of liberty and got some great pictures. Thank you to all the very friendly crew and would say don't think about , do it , you won't regret it.

We were a little disappointed at first because our cruise was canceled at last minutes due to the bad weather but the crew was, super kind and rebooked us as soon as possible and we really appreciated. The cruise was very beautiful and the crew made a good job. It was interesting to see how a sailboats works and the crew made folks to join them to lift up the sails including my husband and my two sons. Maybe it would be great if a person/guide take some time to tell story about the boat and some information about city and monuments history.

The ship was awesome, plenty of space (not overbooked) and the views were amazing. They do a call for volunteers to help hoist the sails, and as a volunteer I gotta say that it's no joke! I was in a train of guys but I think the only people working were the two female employees using ALL OF THEIR BODY WEIGHT to pull the rope down and me. There were some delayed-launch post-frat guys behind me limp-wristing the rope, a child, and the child's dad or grandfather, who also seemed to be trying. So...skip arm day if you want to help hoist the sails. I'd do it again, it was fun and quite a workout. The downside is that this really is a "sail" and not a "tour". We didn't learn anything about the ship, about the statue, about the island, the history...nothing. It also runs primarily under what sounded like Diesel power, though it did sail unassisted for a brief portion of time.

Dear Charles, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback w us! You are correct in pointing out that we do not make announcements throughout the sail. I am sorry if you believed you had booked a narrated tour. While very welcoming to visitors from far and wide, we at Manhattan By Sail take pride in providing our guests with a non-narrated and serene respite from the intensity of the hustle and bustle of NYC. Because we raise our sails and shut off the engine whenever conditions allow, we have found that our guests generally prefer the more sensory pleasure of hearing the wind rustling the sail l, the slap of the waves against the hull and the call of a seagull or the clanging of the channel buoys more than having a guide point out the many landmarks of NY Harbor. In our introductory welcome speech, we invite guests to ask any questions they may have of our knowledgeable and engaging crew. Because we are operating a vessel affected by elemental forces of Nature many factors determine how much time we can spend sailing on a given trip. A lack of wind or a very strong adverse current may require using the engine more on some trips than others in order to give our guests a proper experience and get out to the Statue and back in our allotted time.
