Summary: The tours were great but too rushed and be prepared to spend lots of times on the bus.
Some things aren't specified in the tour description. You don't know whether you're going on the plantation or swamp tour first, it's up LTC based on the day's numbers. I booked our tour two days out and was immediately called to say it wasn't available. Amazingly someone had canceled for the next day, so we took that slot. They give you a 30 min. pick up window. We got there 5 minutes early, just in case, and waited 45 minutes for our bus. We then drove a few blocks where several buses stopped and passengers were jockeyed around, depending on where they were going. This took 25 minutes. We went to the plantation first, which is about an hour bus drive, maybe a few minutes more. The plantation was great. The guide was uninspired and you had to ask questions if you wanted more details about the history. It was a 30 minute tour and I feel like we were rushed through. As part of the LTC tour, we could only be there just under 2 hours and there is so much more to see that we didn't have time for. The gift shop alone has tons to see and there are many exhibits of the buildings on the plantation that we had to skip. The mint juleps were awesome!
On to the swamp: our bus driver got lost, so we spent another hour and a half on the bus. I felt bad for her: she was new and LTC should've had another guide with her to help, or should've sent her on a couple practice runs before hand. She had to call base several times to figure out where to go. We were late for the swamp tour but since it was everyone on our bus, they waited for us. I didn't time it to see if it was cut short. I loved the air boat! Our guide was great and we did see alligators but I was disappointed that I didn't get to hold any babies, like they show in the description photos. The guide did say they did not see any in the morning tour because it was still too cold, so I'm glad we ended up with the later tour. There is a small gift shop at the swamp tour, with a very limited snack shop.
Our bus stayed with us at the tours so if you buy a lot at either place, ask if you can leave it on the bus. I almost lost a bag in the swamp. The buses were clean.
Plan on another hour bus ride back to the city. We got back shortly after 5:00.
