1
The Filson Historical Society
Completed in 1905, the Ferguson Mansion only saw one family reside there in its intended capacity. In the 1920s, it became a well-known funeral home and remained as such until the 1980s, when "The Filson" moved its headquarters there. Contact their front desk to find out how to get inside.
2
Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad's Castle)
Constructed in the 1890s, "Conrad's Castle" is an impressive limestone Richardsonian Romanesque mansion the typifies Kentucky's Gilded Age. If you sign up for one of their tours (highly recommended!), be forewarned: you might encounter a ghost - or five.
3
Central Park
Designed by the same genius behind New York City's famous Central Park, this 14-acre green space is the breathing heart of Old Louisville. At night, it can be kind of spooky.
4
The Witches' Tree
Hear the story of why this tree is so gnarly and twisted, and why people adorn it with trinkets, beads, and good luck charms!

The experience was fantastic & left us wanting to know more about Old Louisville. The opportunity to hear ghost stories on Halloween night was outstanding and we will definitely return for additional tours!

The ghost tour was a fun twist on the historic walking tour of old Louisville as we got to hear about spooky stories through the decades. The tour guide had a personal connection to several of the houses and their associated stories and it made for a fun story telling experience.

Although excited to take this tour, I didn’t go, even though I bought tickets in advance and drove there from Dayton Ohio. The evening prior to the tour I received an email from my tour guide. Some things jumped out at me that weren’t identified prior to buying the tickets. Comments like “Also, please be advised that your tour starts and ends at the transitional edge of a very diverse neighborhood, near downtown Louisville. You may see things you'd see in any larger city across the US, including homeless people and panhandlers” and “Be mindful of your surroundings, as you would in any larger city. If you're parking on the street, do not leave valuables in plain sight in your vehicle. We recommend not walking from the downtown area because of frequent panhandlers and transients along Fourth Street.” So don’t walk there and there is a good chance your car might get broken into. Of course the email makes sure you know “*Please treat your tour tickets as you would theater or concert tickets. * *IF YOU MISS YOUR TOUR, THERE ARE NO REFUNDS! *” Should be warning sign. I stopped by the area upon arrival to Louisville. I didn’t feel safe in the day. Add to the blocks and blocks of area by the Brown Hotel (which was amazing) that was still all boarded up from the riots…I didn’t feel safe to take my wife and mother-in-law. So a $75 loss for me. Sorry, but this is not like going to a theater or concert.

We're sorry you didn't make the tour. There are always extenuating circumstances, and we are always willing to work with people who get in touch with us beforehand. 30 people and the guide had a great time that night. Our tickets are very much like theater and concert tickets in that there is a limited (very limited in our case) number available-especially in October. In 15+ years, we've never had an issue with anybody's safety on the tour, but since we do start at the edge of the neighborhood, we want people-especially those who don't travel much-to be aware of their surroundings. The email reconfirmation would have been the third time you were made aware of this. This information is on the ticket site as well as in the confirmation message you received. The rare times we have had someone express concerns about the neighborhood, it was only because they noticed a very diverse neighborhood, racially speaking.
