We did both kayaking to Sucia Islands and whale watching with this company. I give both experiences five stars. For the kayaking - we are experienced kayakers and were able to rent three single kayaks for an all day kayaking trip around Sucia Islands. On the boat ride to the island the driver gave us history and pointers for visiting the islands, and pointed out geological rock formations. He walked us to the kayak launch area and showed us on a map the best areas to paddle, and areas to avoid due to currents. The kayaks were well suited to the type of water in the area and the gear was as expected. We were so happy to have a company willing to rent kayaks and let us paddle on our own. Other companies required us to have a guide and be part of a group, which always includes beginners and is a waste of time for experienced paddlers. The paddle was awesome - we were surrounded by seals many times and the surroundings were beautiful. We did whale watching on an evening trip, starting at 5pm, and it was truly magic. It happened to be a crystal clear evening when you could see from Mt. Baker to the snow covered peaks on the Canadian Mainland and Vancouver Island. The boat is smaller and faster than most, and was very stable. We found Orcas within 30 minutes and followed three transient families all around the islands on the Canadian side of the border. Because it was evening, there were only 2-3 other boats around. The boat driver was terrific at predicting where the whales would be and following them without getting too close. The naturalist was very knowledgeable. We came back to Orcas as the sun was setting - perfection. It was much better than impersonal trips I have taken on bigger, slower boats.

We joined Outer Island Expeditions for the last stop on our honeymoon adventure and loved it. The boat they took us on was amazing and we were able to get out to see the biggest group of transient orcas the captain had ever seen! The crew was knowledgeable and friendly; willing to answer any questions we could come up with, and they obviously all loved their jobs. I have gone whale watching before and when I go again, it will be with Outer Island Expeditions. Loved it!

Our family took the sunset whale-watching cruise from Orcas Island. Crew (Joe(l) and Demi) were very nice and informative. Demi is a Biologist and really a good host. We traveled up into Canadian waters to see a pod of transient Orca Whales. Got close enough to hear them exhale! On the way back Demi explained to us the natural history of some scenic rock formations (Chuckanut sandstone) on Tumbo Island (I think) and they also took us to a shallow-water area where seals were congregating. NIce sunset upon return. Trip took about 3.5 hours, water and the boat was smooth, scenery was great and the people were great. Bring your own food and drink (beer ok too!).
