Took the tour and was amazed by the history lesson. Good film to start and then a complete explanation of the picture gallery. The bus tour got you right up next to these HUGE Windmill monsters. The span on the blades is incredible when you are standing there looking up. 2 of them have spans as large as a football field. This is one of the things Palm Springs is noted for and well worth the trip. You get to see the substation and gas fired auxiliary plants plus the solar farms. The tour owner and guide is great and has a huge amount of knowledge. They took us for a Date Shake treat which was great. You learn so much by going up close rather than just the drive by on I10 so be sure and go. Fees are $44 regular and $42 for seniors plus child rates also. Snag a coupon and save 10%.

I have lived in Palm Springs for 15 years and have always admired and been intrigued by the thousands of wind turbines at the entrance to our valley. Recently I had a friend visiting from England who is buying property with a wind turbine on it. I thought it might be interesting for us to go on the windmill tour so she could learn about wind energy and I could satisfy my years of curiosity. It was a very informative and interesting tour. If it cost $20, it would be a great tour. At the actual price of $50 per person it is a tourist rip-off. If you google a good article on the history of wind turbines, you would learn everything that you learn on this tour. The only extra benefit is the up-close look at the windmills but it is NOT worth $50!! Even though they do drive you around in a super-luxury party mini-bus, an ordinary van would do just fine. Although it's an interesting tour, at fifty bucks I DO NOT recommend it.

Tour begins with a walk around the room looking at historical pictures of windmills while the tour guide gives a complete history of the types of windmills used, why they worked or didn't work, how long they were in place and the companies who put them in place. He was extremely well educated about the windmills and I only remember one question he was unable to answer. Then you go to an area behind the building where you can actually see older windmills and their working parts and you receive an explanation of how they work. Then you board a bus and take a tour of the area and see working and non working windmills. The bus is very comfortable, air conditioned and modern. The only negative is that the guide tends to stand out in the hot sun while answering questions and giving info when it could be done just as well inside the tour bus. They did provide water. Do this tour with the Celebrity homes tour for $69/person. The tours are both very, very good.
