Travel the back roads through the heart of Madison County under the wing of one of our guide experts, who are all residents of Madison County. Madison County's world-famous covered bridges were the inspiration behind, and the setting of the novel by Robert James Waller and the 1995 film "The Bridges of Madison County", starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. 

Six of the original nineteen covered bridges remain, making Madison County the Covered Bridge Capital of Iowa. Five of the bridges are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each two-hour personal guided tour includes information about the construction and history of the bridges, the movie production, and a variety of other local historical information. You will visit three of the county's most popular covered bridges and have a chance to walk through them and take plenty of photographs.

We traveled to re-live the movie The Bridges of Madison County as a 50th birthday celebration. Minus the weather, it was drizzly, windy, and cold; we had the most amazing experience walking the bridges and seeing the locations of the different scenes in the movie. Our tour guide was a resident of Winterset at the time the movie was being made so she was able to provide some personal experiences! Our guide is very knowledgeable about the area and took some extra time to make sure we were able to get the pictures we wanted - and was our photographer as well! This was definitely the way to go to tour the bridges!

This was a great totally immersive tour into the covered bridges of Madison County....It included their use and importance in the movie, "The Bridges of Madison County" Also featured were other locations used in the movie....and in general a huge amount of information about the farm community of Winterset..... Our tour guide Bob was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of side stories to tell us...I was mesmerized by the whole tour and can't tell you how happy I was to hire this guide, rather than just view the bridges on our own with a map......
