We had a bad start to this tour... Arrived at the bus stop and were first in line. The Italian guide turned up along with two others and started letting people on (they arrived with them). We were then allowed to go on, only to be told we couldn't sit in the first 10 seats as these were reserved for Italians! A discussion took place and to say I was not impressed was an understatement. They could give me no logical answer as to why this was... Apart from the guide was Italian and wanted those who spoke Italian to be seated beside him. English speakers were to sit in the middle of the bus and other nationalities after that. As the tour was in English I saw no reason for this segregation. Anyway it ended up with myself getting very annoyed with this confrontation and my daughter in tears.... so not a great start. Although we did indeed get to sit at the front after a call to his supervisor. The day did improve as we arrived in Philadelphia, the tour was fabulous and we enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. The highlight of our day was the visit to the Amish farm. The stop for food at Intercourse, PA was great, lots of nice shops, food etc. It was such a shame the group of Italian women didn't respect everyone else on the trip and return to the bus at the given time on any of the stops. The tour guides had to go find them and hurry them up each time. P.s. I've nothing against Italian's... I'd just visited Rome a few weeks before and everyone was lovely! In summary, we enjoyed our day but next time I will opt for a tour that English is the preferred language.

A long day but well worth it. Philadephia is steeped in American History and including of course the Liberty Bell. One cannot miss the Rocky Steps and I even managed to run up them. Again lots of interesting little shops selling their wares and nice little cafes to have breakfast or lunch. The tour then took us to Lancaster where a lot of Amish live intermingled with other ordinary Americans not that anyone we met we could call ordinary - all lovely people. We had a ride in a buggy and our driver was a well kept 73 year old called Yarn and he had 5 children and 28 grandchildren. Well worth the experience and we finished off with a stop at some Amish Markets which were amazing. If you wish to buy one of their quilts however you had best have deep pockets.
