We made the circuit and only got off at the aerial tram stop where we also had a blue star donut. If you get off, it's one hour until the next trolley, so if planning several stops, start early. As seniors we found the street car goes right by Powell Books and for $1.25 for 2.5 hrs is a cheap ride with at most a 20 minute wait for next street car. There is a free shuttle within Washington Park, and the Arboretum there is free. Most people got off at either the Zoo, Powell Books or the Aerial Tram. Can buy ticket online and show receipt to driver. Shuttles leave at top of the hour, so since we left from Riverplace (near Portland Bar and Grill), there was about a half hour stop at the ticket booth before we went on to the Aerial Tram. I thought ride would be continuous, but no. Ticket booth not at Pioneer Square now and will give wallet size slip of paper with stops and corresponding minutes after the hour. Both driver and man at ticket booth very friendly and happy to answer questions.

Thank you for your comments. The tour begins at Stop 1 and we encourage guests to start their tour there. We are a short ride away from most hotels on the Max light rail system. On the Hop-On Hop-Off Trolley there is tour narration by the driver which is not available on the other modes you mentioned. Most of our guests find the 1 hour between trolleys the right amount of time for the attractions.
