Potter's Wax Museum
The inspiration behind Potter's Wax Museum came from a childhood trip to London taken by founder, George L. Potter. As a child, he was mesmerized by the life like figures and wanted to share his enjoyment with the American public. In 1947, Potter began contracting with GEMS of London, a noted wax studio, to create one of a kind figures for his museum. Potter employed artists from all over Europe to aide in this project with the wax imported from France, hair from Italy, and the sculpting taking place in Belgium. Opening it's doors in 1949, Potter's Wax Museum has served as an interactive, educational and fun attraction for visitors to the ancient city. At Potter's, you can interact with historic figures such as, Ponce de Leon, Albert Einstein, and Princess Diana, take a picture with Michael Jordon or Angelina Jolie; or imagine you are on set with Harry Potter and "He Who Must Not Be Named." Enjoy this unique St Augustine attraction.

Being able to take my mom and niece It was our first time. Was neat how they put the hair on people one strand at a time.

Very imformative, something interesting to do when you want to get out of the heat or rain. Takes less than an hour to get through.

We visited the old location years ago and were not too impressed. They've clearly put time and money into the new building, because this time we were absolutely blown away! The models are so life-like that it's a little uncomfortable. The displays are carefully-considered. They really do a lot with a small space. We also appreciated the little details. The "house of horrors" is separated by a curtain. It's nothing you wouldn't see in a campy B-movie, but for parents with small children (or people who just choose not to see that stuff), the option/warning is welcome. Staff members were kind and courteous. They would offer information and assistance if wanted, but were also aware of other patrons who wished to be let alone. We were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the restrooms. There is also a workshop on site, where you can get a glimpse of how the models are made. We certainly recommend including this in your St. Augustine travels, and will definitely be back. You could easily walk here (we did) - down St. George Street and take a left onto Orange. It's right across from the visitor's center, and next to the trolley station.
