We had a fantastic day with Karla the last day before she headed south for the winter! I'm a brand new hobbyist photographer, shooting film on a vintage Canon AE-1 Program after never shooting manual before, and I was still able to get some great wildlife and landscape shots in beautiful Haines. Even for my friend who was using his iPhone, it was a beautiful way to experience the beauty of Alaska away from the cruise ship crowds. We saw coastal brown bears (including a mom and three cubs!) and countless bald eagles- some juveniles and others with their recognizable white heads. No regrets at all about spending our day this way while we were docked in Skagway.

Thanks for this great review. September can be a fantastic time to come to Haines from Skagway. The fall colors are strong with the cottonwoods turning yellow along the river, the understory of fireweed, dogwood and cranberry turning red, the bears feeding on salmon, and the bald eagles up in the trees. Karla is a fantastic guide and I'm glad she was able to provide added value to your vacation. This very well might be our last review of the 2024 season. It was a great season for RGA and I appreciate that you took the time to share your positive impression with others. We hope you come back to see us- perhaps at a different time of the summer. Each month has something different to offer.

Thanks for this comment. I always want our guests to feel like their money was well-spent when they choose to join a tour with Rainbow Glacier Adventures. Our tours to Haines from Skagway are all 6.5 hours long and cost a bit more because of the cost of the round-trip Fast Ferry. But it is the length and cost, and the fact that there is not direct road link between Haines and Skagway that makes Haines such a special and uncrowded place to visit for nature photography.

Despite the freezing temperatures (43 degrees with a windchill around 26!), Pat ensured we stayed warm and comfortable while traveling in the van. His expertise and enthusiasm truly shone through. He drove us to some of his favorite photographic spots and shared valuable tips on using an iPhone to capture stunning shots. I learned new techniques and gained insights into storytelling through photography, which added a whole new dimension to my adventure. This tour was another highlight of my Alaska trip. If you're looking for an excellent guide who knows how to make the most of the cold and capture the beauty of Alaska, Pat and Rainbow Glacier Adventures are the way to go! Take your passport with you as you travel into Canada on this tour!

Thanks for much for this great review of your time with Pat and Rainbow Glacier Adventures. September is the time of year where rain and even snow can become a major factor during a tour. But, on a photography tour, dramatic weather can mean dramatic light which can translate to dramatic photographs. Its all about what you see. And so our role as guides is to use our knowledge of the area and photography to maximize your chances of getting great photos. We hope you join us on another tour.
