I just finished a meal of tarragon-crusted, dijon-apple reduction glazed, cedar-plank-grilled fresh wild king salmon. I liked it, and a good thing too, since I will be eating nothing but wild king salmon for the next 3 months after our trip with Will. Everything about the Alaska King Charter operation is really first rate: His boat is organized, spotless, fast, and well equipped. His first mate is his young son, who works hard to keep things running smoothly. Will is an easy-to-like Armenian guy with 12 years of experience hunting and fishing the Alaskan wild. Most importantly, he knows how to find and catch big salmon. I used to go fishing in Alaska every summer, but this was my first time in Ketchikan. We came in on a cruise ship and only had a couple hours, but I heard the fishing was prime, so I figured we’d see if we couldn’t get one or two. We got on the water about 8a (our boat got in at 7 and we took our sweet time) and it was about a 30 min ride out to Will’s honeyhole. It took about an hour of fishing for Will to dial-in on where the fish were and what they were biting. We trolled, using 2 downriggers and after watching my brother and the other guy on the boat miss a couple fish, I was more than pleased to strike on my first king salmon that came into the boat around 25lbs. After figuring out the pattern, it was a matter of quick attention to the poles as we got a bite about every 10 minutes thereafter. We filled the boat with King and Silver (Coho) salmon and could easily have hit our limit on both species if we didn’t have to get back for a 1230 cruise ship departure. Even caught a Ling Cod! We could probably also have hit a limit on halibut, but alas, time was against us and we didn’t have a chance to fish for halibut. Afterwards, Will had us fill out our forms for packing and shipping, and 1 day and $200 later I got 25lbs of flash-frozen, wild salmon delivered to my door in Dallas. I’d definitely recommend Will, and plan to go back next season to fish with him again.

My boyfriend and I were on a cruise to Alaska in May, and all he wanted to do was go fishing, so I obliged and didn't expect to have "the best time", as I'm not an avid fisher. Well boy was I surprised! He really wanted to catch a big Halibut, but when that was unsuccessful our guide took us to a spot right next to an island and that's where I caught my prize Yellow Eye Rockfish! It was such an exciting feeling reeling it in wondering what I caught and to see this guy was worth the experience in itself. My boyfriend Bryan caught one as well, but his was a third of the size. So I will always tell the story of, "that one time we went fishing in Alaska!" -Heather & Bryan (Roswell, Ga)

We were on a cruise ship and stopped in Ketchachan and decided to do a guided fishing trip for king salmon. We checked with the cruise ship and the prices were a little steep so we decided to walk around and find one by ourselves. On shore we found Alaska King Charter and he was awesome. We went out fishing and he went past all the other guides and put us on fish. That was the best fishing trip ever, we caught rock fish, silver salmon and even king salmon.
