One if the best aspects of our trip to Oregon was our tour with Kevin. He introduced us to some of the best pinots we've had! He picked us up at our hotel and we had an educational drive up to our first stop, Bethel Heights. We tried some delicious wines and enjoyed the lovely views. Kevin also helped us discern the nuances we were experiencing in each bottle and vintage we tried. We are now believers in terroir! Our next stop was Walter Scott- it was an incredible experience meeting and talking with the wine makers. We met both Ken and Erica- they were gracious and fun hosts- not to mention they make some excellent wine! We were able to partake in several barrel tastings for both Pinots and Chards. Luckily, we found that were willing to ship our wine home for us:) Our third stop was at St Innocent- they are a somewhat larger winey with excellent views. The wines here were wonderful. We ended up with a few bottles from the 2011 and 2012 vintage. Kevin was getting very accruate at predicting which ones would be our favorite. We really enjoyed his insight and expertise. Following our third stop, we headed over to our final destination, Evesham Wood. We had a lovely picnic lunch prepared- meats, cheese, veggies- as well as bread fresh from the bakery and raspberries picked from his back yard! After our lunch, we met the wine maker at Evesham- Erin. He poured some of their 2012 pinots, as well as a couple of his own label, Hayden Fig. These wines were excellent- especially at the price point!
I'm very glad we decided to take this wine tour, as it opened us up to a whole new area that we had previously passed by. Kevin was friendly, informative and introduced us to some fantastic wine. If you have the opportunity, book a tour with Kevin! It was one the of highlights of our trip.
