We went out on the catamaran trip today and completely regretted wasting the 5.5 hrs and money. The trip should have been canceled as the waves going out were enormous and choppy, and we never got to see the Napali coastline, as had to turn back due to this. We spent 2 hrs driving out , seeing the same coastline throughout, and fighting very rough seas. The seas were so rough that at least 10 of the 43 passengers on board became completely nauseous and were vomiting and miserable the entire time. This , of course, has the effect of making the rest of us passengers who were not sick, miserable as well, as there were large areas of the boat we couldn't use.
The captain finally decided to turn back due to the waters, and we were all soaked and counting the minutes until we arrived back at shore. We did see dolphins along the way, but that certainly wasn't enough to justify a 5.5 hr trip.
The snorkeling is offered at the very start of the trip at around 7.30am, when everyone was still cold. Nobody was interested at that point and the snorkeling wasn't interesting in any case.
The breakfast provided was terrible - very cheap supermarket trays of sticky, processed muffins and bread. Lunch wasn't much better - cheap cold cuts and a dull pasta salad. No gluten-free options even though we had requested.
Seems management was just focused on getting the trip out and done, when they should have canceled due to the weather. Would have been the right thing to do. Instead, we didn't see napali and wasted 5.5 hrs, coming home exhausted, cold, and in need of a proper meal. All in all, a huge waste of time and money.
I will say that the Crew was extremely nice and helpful. Top-notch attitudes, friendliness and professionalism.

We appreciate you letting us know about your experience. The honesty you’ve given us has been extremely useful. Sounds like you’re right, and a postponement that day a good idea. That being said, once a vessel is out on the water, she can find weather and swell conditions very compatible. As management, when we see there is any sort of danger out there, tours will not go out. But when we know a trip can go out safely and we know that our guests have set aside special time and money to enjoy there adventure, we’re excited. Once safety is agreed upon, the Captain of the boat always makes ultimate decisions. She or he decides if/when a boat will “turn around”, etc. Those are especially tough calls. we know you’ve all signed up for fun! The NaPali coast and all the waters around Kauai, can be even more unpredictable than the weather here this time of year! Your experience definitely does not sound fun. All of us at Kauai Sea Tours are very sorry you’ve gone through this. I’m leaving my email if you’d like to discuss further.
