Skyline Drive
Skyline Drive is a scenic roadway in Cañon City, Colorado. It was built by inmate labor in 1905.[1] The road starts from U.S. Highway 50, with a gradual incline up the side of a ridge. When the road crests, it winds, climbs, and falls like a roller coaster until near its end, where a scenic outlook overlooks both the city (east) and the highway (west). The single-lane, one-way road rises about 800 feet above the surrounding terrain. There are no guardrails despite sharp drop offs, and the drive is about 3 miles long.

Skyline Drive

My three sons and I, ages 9, 10 and 11, were vacationing in Colorado Springs. We decided to do the half day royal gorge jeep tour. My boys were fascinated. Wyatt was our tour guide and he was learned, interactive, kind to my three boys. They learned a lot and had a wonderful time in the open air jeep. It was the highlight of our trip! Five stars all the way. I look forward to going back to Colorado jeeps to do their white water rafting and zip line experience in the summertime.

We took a half day royal gorge jeep tour combined with the royal gorge train ride with lunch after the jeep tour. We had to get up early as we had a 2 hour drive from Denver where we were vacationing, but this tour was a perfect way to get a flavor for Southern Colorado. We can't remember our tour guide's name but is a retired national park service gentleman who was a perfect tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, responsive to our questions and provided us with a great experience. This is a great tour as the weather in Canon City is generally always nice and even in the fall/winter warms up during the day. The ride was very comfortable and we saw everything we wanted to see. Not something I would recommend for small children but ages 8ish and up would likely enjoy it. It was a little chilly to start the morning but expected for the end of October. As long as you come prepared with jackets, hats, mittens, and a blanket it's very comfortable. Would recommend this any day to people looking for a day trip to southern Colorado.

Tom was fantastic. Professional. Knowledgeable. Friendly. Funny. Tour was great. Was a jeep tour - four wheel granny. (Terrain required Tom to have jeep in four wheel drive in the lowest gear. Beautiful scenery only accessible by this tour.
