This tour explores the very beginnings of Sacramento, from Sutter’s colony Nueva Helvecia to food tastings in current at hidden gems locals! You’ll learn about how the many diverse immigrant groups forged our great city and created its agricultural dominance as you eat, drink and stroll.

Local Roots Food Tours limits the group size of each tour to no more than 14 individuals. Special dietary needs can be met with prior notice. This 3 hour tour takes place Monday through Friday.

Though subject to change, typical tastings on this tour include:

Croque Monsieur Sandwich, baked ham and gruyere cheese

Chef selected artisan cured meats and cheeses

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Grilled Pork Spring Rolls

Bahn mi chicken sandwich w/fresh veggie toppings

Fresh roasted organic coffee w/unique blends

My friends and I visited Sacramento for the first time, traveling from Myrtle Beach, SC. We booked this tour to get a good sense of the area and we were thrilled with the experience. Dawnie took us for coffee/burritos, Vietnamese food, pastries and a wine flight with tapas. We enjoyed the beautiful murals in the Sutter district and the history of the cannery. We got a sense of the housing and markets in the area. The best part was how we conversed so well with Dawnie it was like visiting a friend who lived there. It was clear she customized the tour to our personalities. As we were finishing up the morning tour she gave us some good suggestions for how to enjoy the rest of the day - these were much appreciated and we enjoyed those activities as well.

Dawnie was an exceptional tour guide. She gave us great information as we wound our way through the historic Sutter District. From the food to the street murals to the interesting details about the Sacramento and outlying area we had a great time. A+ overall experience.

Our tour guide, Dawnie, was really passionate about the culinary arts and it really showed. She made everyone feel welcome and included everyone in the tour. We were able to really taste some delicious dishes and beverages, too, all the while acquiring much appreciated information on the subject of food. Great way to spend a late morning/early afternoon:)
