We took the Sail & Splash tour. It included a 45 minute stop close to the shore where we got to swim in the ocean. It was nice to have complimentary snacks and beverages provided (salty snacks and sodas). It would have been nicer if they had explained the itinerary at the start, so we'd know where and for how long we would be on each part of the trip. It also would have been nice if they had a microphone so we could hear them better, especially at the end when he was telling us about the famous homes we were passing. Having said that, overall it was a very fun excursion. It is not a quiet adventure; guests are on board to have fun and soak up the sun. Some of us caught a glimse of a sea turtle and we also saw dolphins jumping in the distance! I guess we could also note that the boat was showing its age.

Larry and Richard were very nice and did a great job taking care of everyone on the boat. We signed up for the "Island Getaway and Beach Adventure" for $55/adult and $25/child. Unfortunately we learned as we were sailing that this trip has not existed for 8 months (John Lloyd state park where the "island" is located has been closed for renovation for 8 months according to captain Larry). One other couple on the boat had the same issue as us. In fact this was the "Sail and Splash" trip. We sailed to within 200 yards of our hotel right outside the beach buoys and anchored for 40 minutes to swim. We still had fun going down the small slide on the back, and the kids liked the small trampoline that was inflated when we anchored. They provided noodles for the small kids if needed. We had already gone parasailing the day before which launched from the same dock as the Spirit of Lauderdale. At the parasailing we got a very detailed description of all the homes as we left the harbor for the ocean. It was actually kind of interesting (usually not into that stuff). During the catamaran trip the info was pretty limited as we went from the harbor to the ocean. PROS * Nice boat and nice staff * Small trampoline and small slide off back of boat during swim time CONS *Open bar for $10 more per person is misleading. Only drinks included were 3 types of can beer and 2 types of wine. I think cost was $3/drink otherwise. They should just call this option "Unlimited wine/beer" instead of open bar. * This company did a very poor job of properly advertising. The website and brochures still show the "Island Getaway and Beach Adventure". We told the concierge at the Westin about this after we returned and he threw away all the brochures since they were not accurate. I had originally asked the concierge about this trip since it was highly rated on Tripadvisor. * We were charged the same rate for our kids as the "Island Getaway and Beach Adventure" at $25/child. We were charged $45/adult ($10 less than the advertised Island Getaway trip). I now see we paid $5 more per child than we should of (according to sail and splash trip on their website). * Snacks were limited to a tub of Costco pretzels and two boxes of assorted small chip bags. They actually ran out of chip bags since they were a lot of kids. This was extra disappointing for our family since we thought we were getting lunch on this trip (included in the Island Getaway trip). * Did not get a chance to sit out on the front part of the catamaran as the boat was crowded and they limited the number of people that could sit on the webbing part of the boat. People sitting out on front never moved. * There was no fish or reef to see at all from this swim spot. My older son was hoping to be able to snorkel around a bit at the swim spot.

When booking with Zerve, I asked for the "Island Getaway and Beach Adventure" package. What I received was the "Sail And Splash". Good time sailing and we really enjoyed it, but a little disappointing when you think you are getting Coke and realize you're drinking tea... Captain Larry enhances this trip with his knowledge and experience. I would definitely recommend; just be careful when booking to get what you are asking for.
