We were glad we bought the San Antonio Super Pass. The hop-on/hop off bus route was pretty much a group of hotel drop offs in disguise, but the different drivers added some color to the routes with their commentary. It was a good way to get a feel for where the main attractions were located. We enjoyed the Rio boat cruise. Went at an off-peak time on an overcast morning with threatening skies, so there were only 9 people on the boat. Good view of everything without people in the way. Go off peak or it can get jam-packed! The Tower of the Americas was ok, but could have been anywhere. We went to the top in the evening and the lights were pretty. Planned to have a nightcap in The Chart House's bar up there, but we ran out of steam. For history buffs, there is a display of panels with succinct explanations of Texas history's timeline. The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum was more interesting than I thought it would be. Though it's filled to the brim with taxidermied species, it also includes a lot of information on animals and the need for preservation. The Texas Ranger Museum is in the same building as The Buckhorn. We spent so much time in The Buckhorn that we had to breeze through the Ranger Museum faster than we wold have liked. Some interesting exhibits. Overall, we thought the pass was worth the price, was a good opener to our stay and we blitzed it all in the first day.

I highly recommend that, after you've booked your trip, to San Antonio or elsewhere, go here first. The savings are superior to those found from the brochures. Then, I suggest going through the list of activities, decide which ones are of interest, then narrow them down by asking tough questions, for if you've only got 1 week, as we did, that doesn't leave you many choices if you're also seeing non-book places like the Alamo and the missions, as we were. We discussed, narrowed our list down, and it worked great! First, determine whether any of the "premium" activities appeal. We both opted out of the type of places one could see anywhere, e.g. the zoo, and favored places we couldn't. I'd been to Sea World and Six Flags in California and saw no reason to go to another. Indoor skydiving is available at home. That left the LBJ ranch, which we were both interested in. Then, we checked specifics on its website to find out that the ranch interiors were under refurbishment, thus there went our "premium" choice! That left us with non-premium options. We decided on the Buckhorn/Texas Ranger museum, which is within walking distance of the Alamo and the River Walk as well as near a city parking garage, and the Witte Museum, which has free parking. While I'm not generally a museum person, I enjoyed both, and there wasn't much overlap. Along with the Alamo and the missions, we got a good picture of Texas history in three of our days. The rest of our tour was outside of San Antonio, including the state capital, coast, and country, all of which I highly recommend. For example, the Explorer Pass lets you choose one "premium" attraction, then add 2, 3, or 4 non-premium choices. Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ for us older folks) ranch was one of the "premium attractions." Sea World (been to that in San Diego many times), Six Flags (California), and Skydiving (didn't appeal to her) were the others. We looked up the LBJ ranch and found that, due to refurbishment, part of the ranch couldn't been seen. Oops. There went our premium attraction. Fortunately, there's a "Build Your Own Pass." This allows you to choose as few as 2 non-premium attractions and still get a discount. This is what we did, eventually choosing the Buckhorn and Witte attractions, which weren't duplicative, and were both interesting. Get the app, showed the phone to the staff member, it worked like a charm. The discounts via this pass were superior to those offered in the brochure rack at our hotel and elsewhere. I highly recommend it!!!
