Morti, our tour guide really brought the history of San Diego alive. Our tour consisted of stopping at a church, a haunted house, and two grave yards. He was able to answer all our questions and made some difficult subject matter digestible. This is our second time doing an extra tour with Old Town Trolley Tour Company and they do not disappoint! A great way to spend an hour and a half in Old Town. A light even turned on at the Whaley House. Was it part of the tour...our Jim in the kids room?

We were extremely disappointed in this ghost tour. The tour guide was actually not a bad presenter, but there is really nothing that he can do to make it real and interesting. We were taken to a couple of cemeteries and were told of some past murders. At one point, the guide took out a electronic device with some lights blinking and claimed that was a detector of ghost spirits. That’s just so pathetic and laughable, and was the last straw for me. I gave up from that point on. Really, there are such big markets for ghost detectors that a manufacturer would spend the money to design and market such a device. Finally, we were shown to the Whaley House in the Old Town, which was claimed to be a ghost house. The only claim they have it that the house was built on a site where three people had been executed. And that several residents died in the house. What a surprise! There were residents in the house for close to a hundred years. Is it so surprising that some may have died in the house (for all I know, they may have died completely of natural cause). There is really nothing ghostly about the house (and the rest of the tour). It is really just a run-of-the-mill tourist trap, not worth the two hours and the cost for such a tour.

This tour was just sad. And that was not the fault of the tour guide who tried hard to make something out of nothing. Whoever put this tour together did zero actual research to discover ghost stories. There was one actual ghost story and the rest was just this guy killed this guy. OK, but where is the ghost part? We did go to 2 graveyards, one of which the guide talked more about the eucalyptus trees than ghosts. The other graveyard, the guide lit a cigarette and said the fact it burned means a ghost was present. Huh? The Whaley house is meh. instead of ghost stores, you get a paper discussing where the china and rugs came from. Then the guides in the house make a big deal that family members died in the house, but everyone died at home in the 1800s. Again, where are the ghost stories? If someone put some effort into researching San Diego history, I bet they could put together an interesting tour, but this was not it.
