We went out with San Diego Whale Watch to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We had kids ranging from 6 to 17, their parents and grandparents. We had an amazing trip. We did not have very high expectations of seeing any whales, we just thought it would be a fun excursion for the whole family. Other people saw one or two spouts way out in the distance... but we missed them. Our captain saw some dolphins out in the distance and they decided to try to catch up with them, probably because we hadn’t seen anything else. That’s when everything changed!!! We were surrounded by the largest pod of bottle nose dolphins our crew had ever seen... and one very cute sea lion trying to fit in with the pod. Then they spotted two minke whales on the other side of the boat, we decided to stay on our side because the dolphins were putting on such a show... this proved to be the best decision!!! Not too far away, a blue whale surfaced... even the crew started yelling with excitement. We had an amazing day!! The boat was great, i believe it was at capacity and we never felt crowded. They allowed us to bring drinks and snacks on board with us, but they also have a snack bar. We went in June, and it was quite cool out on the water, I was glad we all had sweatshirts. I advise that wear layers on board.
