We took the afternoon excursion. The biologist was most informative and offered lots of information but did not bore us with constant talking. The morning trip only saw 1 whale and lots of dolphins. We had the great luck of seeing 4 whales all humpback. One breached. If you go bring a light jacket. I wore jeans and was comfortable some of our party were in shorts and too cool. Food is available in the ship but we arrived early and had eaten at a great diner just down the beach. Food was fresh and some of the least expensive on my trip.

While somewhat difficult to locate in San Diego, (it's not too far from SeaWorld San Diego), it's worth the drive. The crew (especially Hailey, Bridget, and Dave) were wonderful. Hailey and Bridget were the naturalists on board, and were very knowledgeable and personable. Don't always expect to see whales, but you're almost sure to see some different types of dolphins (we saw the common dolphin, the Bottlenose dolphin, and the rare Risso's Dolphin. On board, you meet people from a variety of places (Most are NOT San Diego residents--our tour had people from Japan, Slovenia, North Carolina, Arizona...) Note: The waves are not usually too large, but if you're prone to seasickness/motion sickness, take some medicine 30 mins to an hour before departure. Or, if you forgot, they sell some medication in the galley for $4.

We followed our Mapquest directions to the waay wrong place. Call for directions. The naturalist, capitain and crew were awesome. Even in the summer we saw a humpback whale, and a ton of common dolphins, even moms with pups. We found the ride out a bit bumpy, my husband took Bonine before we left and was fine. I don't get "seasick." We chose to stand the entire trip and it was incredible. It was beautiful, we saw animals in their natural surroundings, and we absolutely plan to return in October.
