San Diego Whale Watch is a great company that does cruises all year long. Unfortunately, blue whales has just migrated south and gray whales were just starting to show up. We did come across a pod of several humndred dolphins that were extremely playful and fun to watch. We did the morning tour and missed a large fin whale that showed up in the afternoon. The boat holds 130+ and has a nice galley and heads. It was a calm gorgeous sunny day on December 6, 2014 so nobody was even close to getting sea sick. Jeremy and Trevor are a weath of nowledge and they educated us about whales, dolphins, sun fish, ocean birds etc. we will do this again! and for 1/2 price!

Gray whales migrate thousands of miles from Alaska to Mexico to breed and calf, but they have to skirt close to San Diego shores along the way. This gives you a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with these gentle giants. Although the ship is large, when stopped to view the whales you will feel the motion of the ocean. Be smart and apply a seasickness patch well before leaving the dock. Even if you don't see whales, there is all sorts of other wildlife available for your viewing pleasure. We saw some gigantic sea lions lounging on the docks and buoys and were escorted almost the whole way by a pod of bow surfing dolphins. The view of the city from the ocean are spectacular. It is best to stay on deck and keep you eyes on the horizon. Not only will you feel better, but there is so much to see.

If you want to see sea life you need to be on the sea. Sit at the back of the boat on the lower level. Praise the crew for nature interpretation and friendly crew who help sea steak passengers. My advise, take motion sickness medication before you leave the dock. We went ten miles out to sea. It was all good for fifteen of us. Even though some were sick, they were still happy with the experience. Ocean sun fish, seals, birds, but no whale. No issue, a great three hours with a friendly crew and a fun San Diego experience. Leave a tip as you get off the boat. The crew deserves a little extra.
