We went to see California grey whales on their annual migration between the Arctic and Mexican waters. The boat was roomy. The commentary was done by a marine biologist who gave interesting info, answered any questions but didn't just talk the whole time so you can just enjoy seeing the animals and being out on the ocean. It can get nippy, though, so bring a coat and maybe a hat, scarf and gloves. But if you dress warmly, you'll be completely comfy. It's 2 hours long. I live in San Diego and we go almost every year to see either the grey whales or the blue whales migrate. I'm not a big animal enthusiast but seeing these huge mammals is awe inspiring. The dolphins make me laugh out loud as they play in the wake or in front of the bow of the boat. Everyone who goes seems to love it.

Had a great trip in November 2012. The seas were a bit rough, but the staff was excellent and professional. The naturalist was informative and knowledgeable. As someone used to whale watching in New England, it was great to get an up-close look at sea lions and a variety of bird species right after we left the dock. It took awhile to find whales, but we did see a fantastic pod of common dolphins (which are toothed whales) that were all around the boat, and so close. We also saw an ocean sunfish and some sea lions offshore - so plenty of variety. I was happy and impressed that on the way in, the captain and crew immediately took notice of a large bunch of balloons and picked them up and disposed of them so that they wouldn't harm marine life.

Booked a half-day trip in early November. Water was quite rough, and the air was pretty cold. It even sprinkled just a little. Staff was very cordial and nice. However, no whales could be found. We did see some dolphin, so we don't get a free trip another time because we saw dolphin. The guarantee is "no whales or dolphins" you get another trip free. Well dolphins are plentiful, I guess that is why the guarantee is written like that. I see them quite often in SF Bay. A bit of a disappointment to take a whale watching tour and get skunked. But I guess it's like looking a needle in haystack, sometimes. I'd ago again if it were offered free because we didn't see whales. But not sure I'd pay nearly $70 for it again.
